“Daddy Dave” Leatherby Sr. and his wife, Sally, opened the first Leatherby’s Family Creamery on Arden Way in 1982 and people from all over Northern California have flocked to the restaurant ever since for our sizable sundaes, great food, and exceptional family atmosphere.

Since Leatherby’s founding in 1982, the family of “Daddy Dave” & Sally Leatherby has grown to nearly 80 members, including 10 children and over 55 grandchildren – many of whom work in our Creameries. Our ‘extended family” of past and present employees has grown to include cousins, uncles & aunts, nieces & nephews, in-laws, many family friends, plus over 5,000 young people from the area! In this way, combined with our support of many organizations, charities, schools, teams & other worthwhile causes, we endeavor to contribute to the overall good of our community. Celebrated year after year for dishing up the best ice cream in town, Leatherby's now has three locations in the Greater Sacramento area to serve you: in Sacramento on Arden Way, in Citrus Heights on the corner of Sunrise and Antelope and our newest location is in Elk Grove just off Hwy 99 on Laguna Blvd.

Leatherby’s Family Creamery harkens back to a simpler time of cheerful service, generous portions and tasty homemade eats – all made onsite, using cherished family recipes and the finest natural ingredients. It’s no wonder that Leatherby’s is considered a sweet and family-friendly institution, with 30 years of service to our Sacramento customers and three generations of Leatherbys behind the counter.
